Olive

Olive

  • Growing of the olive
  • The olive tree has two types of blossoms: the perfect blossom that contains both male and female parts, and male blossoms that have only stamens. In the presence of two and more of them there could be done cross-pollination which will increase the crop. However, if you want to have fruits with high quality and a large quantity of crop, you have to have sort of pollinator olive tree.
The olive fruit is green and drupe. After it’s fully ripened it changes its color to a darker one or black. The fruit is round or oval-shaped and oblong. From the moment of pollination to the typical size of the fruits are needed 90-100 days.
The olive needs a long warm period for the fully ripening of the fruits. That’s why during the spring you have to keep the olive tree in a conservatory till the days become hot and the nights become warm. The olive loves the sun. The blossoming season starts in may-June when the temperature is higher than 18ºС. You can grow olive trees outdoors but only if the winter temperatures are not bellow -10 ºС. If the temperature is minus 12-17 ºС, the branches freeze. If it’s minus 20-21 ºС, the tree dies.
You have to replant the olive trees yearly till their fourth year. After that you have to replant them once in every 3 years.
Thyme | Thymus vulgaris

Thyme

  • Thyme Cultivation
  • Thyme is best cultivated in a hot sunny location with well drained soil. The plant reacts pretty well on fertilizing with natural and mineral fertilizers.
Thyme is generally planted in the spring and thereafter grows as a perennial. It can be propagated by seed, cuttings, or by dividing rooted sections of the plant.
It tolerates drought well.  The requirements to the soil humidity are increase during the prick out. To control the soil humidity it’s recommended to use drip irrigation.
Thyme can take deep freezes and is found growing wild on mountain highlands.
Mentha (Mint)

Mentha

  • Mentha Cultivation
  • Most Mentha grow best in wet environments and moist soils. That’s why you have to keep it well irrigated. The best irrigation is the drip irrigation.
Mints will grow up to120 cm tall and can spread over an indeterminate sized area.
All mints prefer, and thrive in, cool, moist spots in partial shade. In general, mints tolerate a wide range of conditions, and can also be grown in full sun. They are fast growing and invasive. To control mints in an open environment, mints should be planted in deep, bottomless containers sunk in the ground, or planted above ground in tubs and barrels.
Mentha need regular fertilization with combined mineral fertilizers.
Mints propagate vegetative by planting rhizomes. You have to propagate the plants in the second half of October.
It is best to store the ready plants in dry and sunny weather. You have to spread them on clean grounds for two days.
